Narrative Tone and Maturity Rating
Six narrative tones and three maturity ratings, from Safe (PG-13) to Unfiltered, plus how the adult verification works.
Updated July 2, 2026
Two settings shape how your story reads. Narrative tone sets the voice of the prose, and the maturity rating decides how dark the story is allowed to go. Both live in Settings.
Narrative tones
There are six tones: Standard, Gritty, Fantasy, Horror, Humorous, and Concise. Standard is the default and adapts its voice to the world you are playing. Gritty leans noir, with hard edges and consequences up front. The others do what their names say: Fantasy plays it classic, Horror leads with dread, Humorous keeps it light, and Concise trims description to keep the pace up.
Maturity ratings
- Safe (PG-13) is the default, with standard content filtering.
- Mature (R) allows realistic violence and darker themes.
- Unfiltered (Grimdark) removes content restrictions within the bounds of the Acceptable Use Policy.
Mature and Unfiltered are adult ratings. They unlock only for accounts whose date of birth shows 18 or older, and an account without a date of birth stays on Safe. A few models also cap at Mature regardless of your setting.
Ground rules
Whatever the setting, play stays inside the Terms of Service and the Acceptable Use Policy, and prompts plus relevant story context are processed by AI providers to run the game. The maturity rating adjusts the fiction, not the rules of the service.
